Novus Holdings, a leader in the South African commercial printing and manufacturing sector, this weekend donated R10 000 to the Blue Collar Foundation (BCF), a philanthropic initiative founded by iconic South African musician, Jimmy Nevis. BCF aims to inspire and create change among the youth of Cape Town and has a special focus on education.
A representative from Novus Holdings joined Nevis on stage on Sunday, 17 March, during his performance at the popular “Concerts in the Park” at De Waal Park, Oranjezicht, Cape Town, handing over the cheque. The donation will go towards the J. Nevis Bursary programme which contributes funding to underprivileged high school students seeking tertiary education.
“Our core focus at the Foundation is to create opportunities that encourage the youth to dream big and live lives not determined by their socio-economic backgrounds. We are so grateful to Novus Holdings for this donation as it will help a deserving learner make their dream a reality through education,” says Jimmy Nevis.
Carrie Nixon, Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager at Novus Holdings, says that the brand is proud to be associated with the BCF through this donation.
“We believe that funding given to bursary recipients will help bridge the socio-economic gap that exists for many learners, ensuring that they adapt to academic life and complete their course of study,” says Nixon.
The donation to the BCF comes off the back of the Novus Holdings “Unwrap the power of your dreams” campaign held in December 2018, which encouraged all South Africans to unwrap joy and believe in the power of their dreams, never forget where they come from, and to keep moving forward in pursuit of following their hearts. It celebrated the magical role of print during the festive season – from gifting and packaging, to the power of telling stories and the importance of giving back. Nevis collaborated with a final year surface design student from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to conceptualise a truly South African inspired gift-wrap for the festive season. Novus Holdings printed the creative wrapping paper, and it was made available to the public through a special festive season gift-wrapping campaign offered to consumers at Cavendish Square in Cape Town during December 2018.
Novus Holdings is committed to making a sustainable difference in the communities in which it operates, as well as driving skills development and transformation within the industry.
