Jimmy Nevis is encouraging all South Africans this festive season to unwrap joy and believe in the power of their dreams, never forget where they come from, and to keep moving forward in pursuit of following their hearts.

This is the inspirational message behind a new campaign initiated by Novus Holdings, a leader in the South African commercial printing and manufacturing sector, which celebrates the magical role of print during the festive season – from gifting and packaging, to the power of telling stories and the importance of giving back.

This Novus Holdings initiative sees Jimmy Nevis, one of South Africa’s favourite musicians, collaborate with final year CPUT (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) surface design student, Joy Ezeka, to design a truly South African inspired gift wrap this festive season, which will be made available to the public through a special festive season gift wrapping campaign offered to consumers at Cavendish Square between 17 – 24 December 2018. The two worked with Novus Holdings’ in-house design department to create the festive gift-wrap.

“When I was approached to be part of this campaign I jumped at the opportunity to work with talented up-and-coming artist, Joy Ezeka. Seeing our concept come to life on paper has been a remarkable experience.  I hope that the campaign will inspire many this festive season to achieve their dreams, no matter where they come from,” says Jimmy.

Jimmy’s story of success is well known: Originally from Athlone, he knew that he wanted to achieve his musical dream since a young age, and pursued this without the help of a musical qualification, capturing the hearts of South Africans with his single ‘Elephant Shoes’ in 2012. Joy, by contrast, discovered her passion later in life, and finally followed her heart’s calling at 38 years of age to study surface design.

Despite their very different journeys, both Jimmy and Joy believe in the power of following one’s dream. This is the basis of the story portrayed in the limited edition, exclusive gift wrap design, which was inspired by Jimmy’s song “7764”, a tribute to Athlone. The design mimics a road map of this suburb; metaphorically representing the many routes one has to take on the journey to achieving one’s dreams. While the concept focuses on moving forward and striving to succeed, it also centres on knowing where you come from. Bicycles, skateboards, trains and cars are also illustrated to inspire people to never stop moving and to always find a way to make things happen.

“Paper and print have always been central to storytelling, and even more so during the festive season. It is a medium that gives joy to many, whether through reading books, hand-written cards, or through a beautifully-wrapped gift,” says Carrie Nixon, Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager at Novus Holdings. “We hope that this special gift wrap brings joy to many this festive season, as well as inspires South Africans to follow their dreams.”

The design will be revealed and available from Cavendish Square Shopping Centre as part of their gift wrapping service over the festive season between 17 to 24 December 2018. Shoppers will be asked to make a small donation in exchange for the service, the proceeds of which will go to the Cape Kidney Association and the SPCA.

To open the gift wrapping service, Jimmy Nevis will be available between 10am and 12pm at Cavendish Square on 21 December to wrap shoppers’ gifts and meet fans. To avoid disappointment, members of the public are encouraged to visit the centre early to have their gifts wrapped using the exclusive design, as only limited quantities are available.

Four fast facts about the Novus Holdings ‘Unwrapping Happiness’ Campaign:

  1. The wrapping paper produced for this campaign is printed on sustainable paper, accredited with the globally-recognised Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC) certification, and the Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC). These accreditations ensure that the printed products can be traced back to their points of origin from responsible, well-managed forestry, controlled and recycled resources.
  2. Jimmy and Joy met on various occasions between July to November 2018 to conceptualise and the limited edition gift wrap.
  3. The design was printed by Novus Print Solutions, a division of Novus Holdings, in Milnerton, Cape Town using environmentally-friendly, vegetable-based inks.
  4. Novus Holdings will not be making a profit from the campaign. Novus Holdings will make a nominal donation at the end of the campaign to the Blue Collar Foundation, founded by Jimmy Nevis. The Foundation aims to inspire positive change amongst the youth by creating opportunities that encourage them to dream beyond the means of their socio-economic background.

This limited edition exclusive gift-wrap will be available at Cavendish Square’s gift wrap station located outside H&M from the 17 – 24 December 2018. Consumers will be asked for a nominal fee in exchange for the gift wrap service, all proceeds of which will be donated to the Cape Kidney Association and the SPCA.
