Established in 1983, KwaZulu-Natal based ITB Flexible Packaging Solutions (ITB) is one of South Africa’s premier packaging companies, with a leading position in a number of niche segments of the market. Initially family owned, it was brought into the Novus Holdings stable in October 2017, and now forms part of the Group’s greater packaging offering along with its labelling operations.
ITB specialises in the manufacture and supply of flexible packaging solutions, from plain shrink film through to high quality printed and laminated consumer product material.
Through significant continued investment in technology, ITB boasts state-of-the art converting equipment, which includes co-extrusion, flexographic and gravure printing, lamination and a wide variety of bag making capabilities.

In an industry which is traditionally volume driven, ITB Plastics continually strives to place emphasis on technologically intensive solutions, value added products, interpersonal relationships and excellent service.
The acquisition of ITB Plastics forms part of Novus Holdings’ business strategy to diversify into related and new markets to boost profitability and increase cash flow through sourcing new revenue streams for the Group. In support of this, we plan to expand on our current offering and gain organic growth in the flexible plastic packaging and wrap around label sectors.
Production.
ITB’s head office and manufacturing centre located in IsiThebe, KwaZulu Natal, has in excess of 22 000m2, housing production, warehousing and office space. The ITB warehouse has the capacity to hold in excess of 1 200 tons of raw material. Sales, communication and distribution activities are activated through the dedicated national sales team with offices in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Product Offering.
With the continuous investment in cutting-edge technology, ITB is able to stay ahead of trends and has the ability to set new standards allowing the business to confidently service a growing customer base of leading brands and retailers. ITB currently services the FMCG, pet, chemical, retail and security industries.
Boutique/ retail bags.
ITB manufactures a wide range of loop and patch handle bags predominantly used by large retail outlets. Printing up to ten colours ensures exceptional quality and eye-catching products that maximise marketing potential.
Form, fill & seal bags.
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) & biaxially orientate polypropylene (BOPP) film is used for form, fill & seal applications, primarily used in the food industry. The co-extruders enable ITB Plastics to achieve a variety of properties required for different foodstuffs.

In-house specialist films (Pplastuff) are used to achieve cost effective products without compromising on quality. ITB Plastics is also able to supply BOPP’s & PET’s (polyethylene terephthalate) which are printed, slit and laminated.
Customers are able to move from the current form, fill & seal films to the Pplastuff film (proprietary polymer blend film). This film runs faster on customer packaging machines and delivers a superior look and feel to the conventional packaging.
Security bags.
Co-extruded film is used to produce opaque security and courier bags that are used by various customers throughout South Africa and abroad. These products can either be finished with tape or a glue tape depending on the final product.
Carrier bags.

An ITB creation, the No Problem Marketing® Carrier bag features two moulded plastic handles made from eco-friendly recycled material. Thanks to the sturdy construction features listed below, this product is ideal for creative marketing campaigns.

Two Timer® Carrier Bags
Another one of ITB’s innovative concepts, the Two Timer® carrier was initially designed for large quantities of foodstuffs as it has the ability to carry up to 20kgs. Once opened and emptied, the end consumer is able to reuse the bag, thus providing the brand with the added benefit of a walking advertisement.
Vest type carriers
Predominantly used in the retail sector these bags are produced using HDPE.
Accolades.
- ITB has two Edcon group citations for the high standard of supply and proactive assistance in the development of flexible packaging.
- ITB received the Tastic Rice corporation award for innovation in the supply of flexible packaging for two consecutive years.
- ITB was awarded the Goldpack 2001 Silver award in the flexible packaging division, Goldpack 2001 Special Award for Innovation in flexible packaging.
- ITB received the Sasol Bateleur awards certificate of Recognition – runner up External Stakeholder of the Year 2012/2013.
