Paarl Media has been selected as a finalist in the 2013 Eco-Logic Awards. These awards, hosted by The Enviropaedia, in association with SABC3 identify and give recognition to individuals, organisations, products and services that are making a real and measurable difference in creating a more sustainable world to live in.
After a nationwide call for entries Paarl Media is one of five finalists in the Recycling Award category. Paarl Media’s entry is centred around efforts to reduce the environmental impact of the printing process, through the implementation of a number of sustainable business practices, such as the Regenerative Thermal Oxidisers on all heatset web offset presses which eliminates emissions.
All gravure copper skins are recycled and 95% of Toulene is recovered and sold back to the supplier for re-use. All waste paper from processes is recycled, some using sophisticated baling facilities at the plant. Paarl Media is the only printer to install energy-efficient closed loop paper and dust extraction systems ensuring 100% dust free air is emitted.
“Being named a finalist in the recycling category is an achievement all on its own and we are very proud of it,” says Christoff Botha, executive director of Paarl Media Western Cape.
“The entries we received this year were of a very high calibre. We also opened new categories, including the Municipality category and have been delighted by the response, says David ParryDavis, editor of The Enviropaedia and co-host of the Eco-Logic Awards.
The winners of the Eco-Logic Awards 2013 will be announced at Maropeng (Cradle of Humankind South Africa) World Heritage site, Gauteng on the 26 September 2013.
