Clarkebury Senior Secondary School celebrated Heritage Day with the official handing over of the multi sports facility donated by Paarl Media and in partnership with the Department of Basic Education.

“This day was an ideal day to host such an event, as Clarkebury is the former learning institution of our beloved Madiba and is steeped in rich history,” says Thobela Dikeni, director of business development at Paarl Media.

The handover was officiated by the Honourable Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga who was welcomed by the community through songs of praise performed by the school choir. The Minister commended Paarl Media for their commitment to the development of sports and education in the rural communities of the Eastern Cape in her address and noted the impact that organised sport can have on the youth during their school years.

The celebrations involved traditional dancing, songs of thanks, as well as gumboot dancing performed by the school children. The festivities were attended by key community heads, the local community, Clarkebury school children as well as Ndileka Mandela, Mandela’s granddaughter.

“We are particularly proud of this project and look forward to the impact that this contribution will have on the community. Paarl Media will continue to contribute towards building our nation and making South Africa a better country,” concludes Dikeni.
